Editorial policy

A few firm rules keep a shopping guide honest.

Facts about products

Sizes, forms and label words come from each product’s pack and from the brand’s own product pages in Japanese. Each label is read twice, from two sources, before a word of it appears here.

Protection marks

We report SPF, PA and water resistance marks as the label prints them. We add no protection claims of our own to any product.

Imported labels

Skin Aqua sunscreens are made for Japan. Every product page carries that note, because a Japanese label is not a US Drug Facts label.

Sources

Statements about sun protection come from the FDA, the American Academy of Dermatology, the CDC, the EPA, the National Cancer Institute and the Japan Cosmetic Industry Association. We read each source in full and quote it unchanged. Sources read 10 October 2026.

Ratings and reviews

Rating figures come from the product pages and are updated with the prices. Buyer reviews are quoted unchanged.
